How to Find and Live Your Calling
The question behind the question
Most men who ask ‘what is my purpose?’ are asking a question that has a simpler one behind it: does my life matter? Am I doing what I was made to do? These are not questions that theology alone answers — they are questions that require a man to understand both who he is (identity) and what he is for (calling), and then to build a life that embodies both.
What scripture says about purpose and calling
Ephesians 2:10 establishes that God has prepared good works in advance for each man to walk in. Jeremiah 29:11 promises plans to prosper and not to harm. Romans 8:28 assures that all things work together for good for those called according to his purpose. The biblical framework for purpose is not abstract — it is specific to each man, already prepared, waiting to be stepped into.

Why many Christian men miss their calling
Passivity
Many men wait to feel certain before they act. Certainty rarely arrives before action — it typically arrives through action. The man who waits for complete clarity about his purpose before taking any step will wait a very long time. The man who takes the next faithful step, and then the next, tends to find the path becoming clearer as he walks it.
Competing distractions
Screens, entertainment, comfort and the tyranny of the urgent consistently crowd out the deeper reflection that purposeful living requires. A man who is always reacting has no capacity to discern what he should be initiating.
Unaddressed sin
Unconfessed sin and unaddressed harmful habits create a static that makes it difficult to hear the voice of the Spirit clearly. The pattern in the Forged in Faith programme — mind renewal, body stewardship, Spirit reception — is a deliberate clearing of the obstacles that prevent a man from hearing his calling clearly.
Practical steps toward living with purpose
- Ask what you would do if money were not the primary constraint — the answer often points toward gifting and calling.
- Ask what problems in the world make you angry or sad — calling frequently operates through righteous anger at injustice or suffering.
- Ask what you were doing the last time you felt most fully alive — not comfortable, but fully alive.
- Write down your answers. Bring them to prayer. Bring them to a trusted brother or mentor. Share them with your accountability partner.
Day 28 of Forged in Faith — sent
The final day of the programme is titled ‘Forged and Sent.’ Having renewed the mind, stewarded the body and opened fully to the Spirit, the man is commissioned — not to a specific career or ministry, but to the posture of availability. A man who is available to God, daily, is a man whose calling will find him.
